ENFIELD, Connecticut — Fire Chief Edward Richards announces that Enfield Fire District 1 is currently accepting applications for the position of Deputy Fire Chief.

The Deputy Fire Chief will report directly to the Fire Chief and will serve as the department’s training officer.

The primary tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing, implementing and managing all fire department training
  • Direct supervision of firefighters
  • Acting in a senior position within the fire department incident command system for emergency incidents, as necessary
  • Develop collaborative training initiatives with mutual aid partners and other response agencies

As the training officer, the selected candidate must be able to operate in a high-level management position functioning in an administrative capacity as a Staff Division Head within the Fire Department. The Deputy Fire Chief must also have sound knowledge in instructional methodology, current nationally accepted fire service principles, practices, techniques and standards and a thorough knowledge of all Enfield Fire District 1 operations.

An associate’s degree or higher in a fire service discipline is preferred along with a minimum of 10 years of experience as a firefighter or in a similar role. Candidates must have the necessary certifications to fit the role. Candidates must also have familiarity with current Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standards regarding firefighter training and firefighter health and safety.
