ENFIELD — Chief Edward N. Richards and Enfield Fire District No. 1 report that firefighters assisted in unloading a delivery of wreaths Tuesday for the Wreaths Across America ceremony this weekend.
Enfield Firefighters unloaded a delivery of 80 cases of wreaths on Tuesday, Dec. 15 that will be delivered to St. Patrick’s Cemetery this weekend as part of the annual Wreaths Across America ceremony.
The wreaths will be delivered to the cemetery on Saturday, Dec. 19 at noon. Throughout the ceremony Wreaths Across America volunteers will lay remembrance wreaths at the graves of veterans and fallen heroes while also saying their names aloud to remember and honor the sacrifice that they made for their country.
“We are extremely proud to be a part of this event organized by Wreaths Across America,” Chief Richards said. “This is a great way to honor all those who made a sacrifice for our country, and all of us here at Enfield Fire District understand the importance of showing our support for those who served.”

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic all volunteers are required to wear a face mask and maintain proper social distancing.

Wreaths Across America was formed as a non-profit organization in 2007. The mission of the organization is to remember, honor and teach through the laying of wreaths on veterans’ graves. In 2014 the organization and their network of volunteers laid over 700,000 memorial wreaths at 1,000 locations in the United States and beyond, including ceremonies at the Pearl Harbor Memorial, as well as Bunker Hill, Valley Forge and the sites of the Sept. 11 tragedies. The wreath-laying is held annually, on the second or third Saturday of December.
