Chief Edward N. Richards and Enfield Fire District No. 1 will join the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation in its upcoming Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters initiative. Beginning Sept. 26 through Oct. 3, landmarks, fire departments, businesses, organizations and homes across the nation will glow in respect of fallen firefighters and their families.

Community members are encouraged to join in this tribute to fallen firefighters nationwide by joining the Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters initiative.  Lighting your house or business in red on the evening of Oct. 2 to coincide with the Candlelight Service held on that day, or any time during that week, would be an additional symbol of support and comfort to the families whose loved ones are being remembered.

In 2017, the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation created Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters to recognize the 25th anniversary of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend. Since then, Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters has expanded to include fire departments and families lighting their homes in red.

Every October, the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation sponsors the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend, the official national tribute to those firefighters who died in the line of duty during the previous year.
