Chief Edward N. Richards reports that Enfield Fire District No. 1 extinguished a house fire at a Laurel Park duplex early this morning.
At approximately 3:40 a.m., Enfield Fire District No. 1 was dispatched to 9 Laurel Park for a report of a building fire within one of the units. Upon arrival, first responders reported heavy fire showing from the left side of a two-story, wood-frame duplex.
Firefighters conducted an aggressive exterior attack and had the fire under control in approximately 25 minutes.
All occupants of the unit, one adult and three children, were able to safely exit the house before first responders arrived. The adult was treated by paramedics at the scene and transported by ambulance to an area hospital as a precaution. No other injuries were reported.
Mutual aid at the scene was provided by the Thompsonville, North Thompsonville, Hazardville and Shaker Pines fire departments. Station coverage was provided by the Warehouse Point and Broad Brook fire departments.
The scene was cleared by approximately 7:15 a.m. Enfield Fire District’s Fire Marshal remains on scene investigating the cause of the fire.
Due to extensive damage, the duplex was deemed uninhabitable and the residents of both units are displaced as a result of the incident.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
