FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ENFIELD, CT- The Enfield Fire District is holding the annual district meeting on May 4, 2023 at 8:00 p.m. at Station One, 200 Phoenix Ave.

Included in the meeting is the vote on the 2023-2024 proposed budget. The proposed budget encompasses a plan to ensure adequate coverage on calls while preserving the need for our valued part-time paid/volunteers. This proactive plan moves the district to a guaranteed 24/7 system, ensuring that our main goal of protecting the lives and property of the district is met by having the needed personnel ready to respond in a timely manner. The proposal uses mostly existing personnel adding additional new positions with minimal impact to the taxpayers for this increase in service.

We are working with our administrative staff to ensure both fire stations are covered with full-time, part-time and volunteers. This is not a progressive plan that involves adding more personnel in the coming years. With the current economic downturn, any decision to increase taxes in today’s economic climate is taken very seriously. Over the last several years, we have been able to add new apparatus (three pieces) with no resulting increase in taxes and, in fact, were able to lower taxes at times. Our district is in strong financial shape due to decisions made by the commission and the stewardship of our administrative staff.

We have a moral duty to ensure that when our residents go about their days or sleep at night, the Enfield Fire Department is ready, willing, and able to perform above and beyond their expectations. We hold no greater duty.
