On June 6, 2026, at approximately 1952 hours, the Enfield Fire District, along with first-alarm automatic aid from neighboring in-town fire districts, were dispatched to 20 Prior Road for a reported structure fire.
Engine 16 arrived on scene to find fire showing from the front, right side, and rear of the structure (as seen in the video below). Crews quickly initiated an aggressive fire attack, while additional incoming apparatus were assigned coordinated tasks that led to the incident being safely brought under control quickly.
There were no reported civilian or firefighter injuries.
One cat was able to make it out of the structure safely; however, additional pets located during search efforts did not survive. Our thoughts are with the homeowners during this difficult time, and we extend our sincere condolences for their loss.
The cause of the fire appears to be, family’s dog jumped up to get something on stove and inadvertently turned on the burner by hitting the stove knob.
Fire Safety Reminder
This incident serves as an important reminder:
- Never leave items on your stovetop, keeping cooking areas clear and free of combustible materials.
- Use protective covers on stove knobs, especially if you have pets or small children.
- Have working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors on every level of the home, including smoke detectors in every bedroom (Free installation available through your Fire Department).
Simple precautions can help prevent devastating incidents.
