About EFD

Enfield Fire District No. 1 proudly protects 20,000 people living in an area of 16 square miles.  We operate out of two stations that protect a primarily residential area.  Our department is a public department whose members are on a combination of paid and volunteer status.  We have an  ISO rating of four.

Enfield Fire District No. 1 is one of five departments serving the town of Enfield.  The total town is 35 square miles with 48,000 people.  Four of the five departments are a combination of both paid and volunteer members.  The oldest department in the center section of town is full time all paid members. Similar to the other departments, we are a separate tax district, serving the community as a public fire service entity separate from the Town.  We strive to provide the best emergency services possible with a roster of community spirited and primarily volunteer members trained to serve and protect in a safe manner.  We pride ourselves in the training provided to our members, the fire prevention and Code enforcement service provided to the community and the efficient and professional emergency services we provide.  The District is a residential community with a heavy mix of commercial and light industrial parcels, it is bounded by a major river, is served by a major railroad line and interstate highway and is in the runway approach to Bradley International Airport.  The department provides fire suppression, Hazardous Materials Incident response, Rescue services and Supplemental EMS response with the Police Department  run BLS ambulance and private ALS ambulance.  Our rescue capabilities include: trench and confined space, building collapse, MVA extrication, heavy rescue capabilities, shore based water rescue, hovercraft based swift water rescue, cold/ice water rescue and rope rescue.
