ENFIELD, Connecticut — Chief Edward N. Richards reports that the Enfield Fire Department extinguished a fire at a local hotel this morning.

At about 5 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to the Hampton Inn, 20 Phoenix Ave., on an activated fire alarm.

Upon arrival, crews learned that there was an active fire in the laundry room. Firefighters from Shaker Pines, Hazardville, North Thompsonville and Thompsonville responded to the scene to provide assistance.

Crews encountered flames in a commercial laundry dryer. The fire spread outside the machine, causing the activation of the automatic sprinkler system, which contained the fire.

The building was evacuated while crews worked to remove smoke from the five-story building.

There were no injuries reported and all occupants were allowed to return to their rooms after the fire was put out, with the hotel resuming normal operations.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
