ENFIELD — Fire Chief Edward Richards reports that members of all five of Enfield’s Fire Departments were mobilized as Task Force 53, as part of the mutual aid response to a deadly plane crash at the Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks this morning.

Task Force 53, responded to Windsor Locks at approximately 10:15 a.m. today. Task Force 53 is made up of one apparatus from the six fire stations in Enfield.

The task force remained on standby until 2:45 p.m., providing coverage for the towns of Windsor Locks, Suffield, Granby, East Granby and Windsor while their crews were responding to the plane crash.

On Wednesday morning, a B-17 airplane, a WWII-era vintage plane crashed into a building at Bradley International Airport while attempting to make an emergency landing. Authorities have said that the crash was fatal and several people were injured.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to those who have been impacted by this terrible tragedy,” Chief Richards said. “Our task force will remain in service to provide coverage for Windsor Locks and our neighbors for as long as necessary.”
