Enfield Fire District No. 1 would like to warn Enfield residents about current dangerous river and stream conditions. High water levels and fast moving river flows caused by the recent influx in rain has created difficult conditions that result in safety hazards for those boating or using paddle crafts such as canoes or kayaks.

The Connecticut and Scantic rivers, along with smaller waterways in the area,  are still running high and fast from the recent deluge of rain. Besides just bringing more water into rivers and streams,  debris and downed trees and their limbs have found their way into local watercourses as well. As such, boating and swimming in these rivers and streams present significant and dangerous challenges.

Recently, Enfield Fire District No. 1 has seen an increase in calls involving boaters, in particular kayakers, who have endangered themselves and emergency responders while trying to navigate these swiftly moving waters. Out of an abundance of caution, Enfield Fire District No.1 advises residents to refrain from using rivers and streams until water levels return to normal.
